Tune-In!

Luke 8:8 “…Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”

In today’s Scripture reference, Jesus is saying something that is very powerful. Jesus says “Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.” Whoever has a radio to receive, let him tune-in. It is a sad thing to have ears to hear and not hear – to be equipped with everything to hear God consistently and, still not hear or tune-in to God’s frequency. Jesus is saying if you have an ear, use it to hear. You need to be hungry to hear. You need to want to hear.

Luke 8:5 [NIV] “A farmer went out to sow his seed.  As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the air ate it up.” In this Parable, the sower went around scattering seed [Please read Luke 8:1-15]. The seed is the voice [the Word] of God. The sower was scattering the seed; in other words, the sower was broadcasting the Word. The sower in this parable is God and He was broadcasting the Word. Even right now, there are different voices in the atmosphere all around you and there also is God’s voice. What you hear depends on what voice you tune-in to.

You cannot be tuned into the voice of men and be complaining that you cannot hear God. We have learnt several times that the quickest way to forget what God says about you, is to focus on what men say about you. And the converse is also the case. The quickest way to forget what men say is to tune-in to the voice of God.

As the sower went about scattering his seed, the four different kinds of soil responded in four different ways. And this shows us how to tune-in to hear the voice of God.

#1. Cultivate an Open Mind. To cultivate an open mind means you must want to hear from God. Be eager, hungry, and receptive to hear from God. One reason a lot of us have never heard from God is because our minds have never been open to this possibility. A lot of people do not even believe that God wants to speak to them. And so they are not open to the fact that they can actually hear from God. Some people think it is the exclusive preserve or the job of the pastors. Not at all! Jesus came so every one of us will hear from Him.

Prayer: Precious Holy Spirit, help me tune-in and stay tuned-in to the voice of God alone, in Jesus Name.
