Block II

1 John 4:18 Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.

Actions speak louder than words, they say. So have your actions been voicing your need for God or have they been stating otherwise? The story is told of a little boy who was deeply upset at the fact that at mealtime, his mother would always stop them from eating just to pray. One day after his mother got back from the market, he said, “Mum, let’s pray over all the food now once and for all”. In other words, no more disturbances at mealtime! It is pride in our hearts that leads us to think we do not need God or that we can do things on our own. Apart from Him, we can do nothing!

#2. The second mental block that causes us to have a closed mind is Fear. Sometimes, we are just afraid, even of what God might say to us or demand from us. You need to know that every Word of God to you is for your good. If you obey God’s leading to give away something valuable, will you come out short? It may appear so in the physical. God has taken me through that path before and I have also seen what comes afterwards. You cannot obey God and come out short. It is impossible!

The fear of parting with “valuable” possessions [so to speak], has kept a lot of people’s minds closed and hardened. The fear that God may tell them to empty their account and give it. And so their unwillingness to hear such things becomes a problem. But guess what? God may not even be interested in that. I have experienced this as well. I was afraid to hear God because I thought He was interested in a particular thing. Only to discover He was not even interested in that at all.

Why you are afraid? I can tell you for a fact that it is because you do not know God. When you begin to know God, you begin to trust God. When you begin to trust God, fear flies out of the window. Jesus said to Peter, “Come, walk on water”. And because Peter knew Jesus and trusted Jesus, he stepped on the water. You need to let go of all the fears you are having and embrace God. Step out towards Him even when all you hear is His voice.

Prayer [song]: Spirit lead me where my faith is beyond borders, let me walk upon the waters whenever You may call me. Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander and my faith will be made stronger in the Presence of my Saviour. Amen!
