His Channels V

1 Sam.28:6 [MSG] “Saul prayed to God, but God didn’t answer—neither by dream nor by sign nor by prophet.”

Channel #6: God speaks through Silence: When God is silent it can be really uncomfortable. I went through a season in my life that was as if God kept quiet. I almost went berserk. What I learned from that experience is that when God keeps quiet, many times God is telling you to choose. He is watching to see the quality of your decisions. He is saying, “You have been walking with Me for a while so now I want you to choose. I want to see how you will reason this out”. For instance, I needed to get petrol for my car. The queue at the gas station was short but it was moving very slowly. On the opposite side of the road, there was another station selling but the queues there were longer.

So I began to ask the Holy Spirit what I should do. You would not even believe some of the things I ask the Holy Spirit. I ask Him for direction for everything. So I said to Him, “Should I stay on this queue or should I go across the road to the other petrol station? Lead me Lord, what should I do?” But He was not saying anything. When a child is asking a parent for something and the parent does not answer, what does the child do? The child keeps on asking. So I pressed on. Suddenly, the Holy Spirit said, “use your brain”.

Many times, people think being a Christian means becoming brain dead. That is not quite right! God wants you to use your brain. So I thought it through: the station I was in normally closes early and even though the queue was short, it was moving really slow. That other petrol station was bigger, had more outlets and stayed open longer, even though the queue there was long. So I took the risk, left the queue, went to the other station and I got fuel. When I was driving back, the car that was in front of me in the first queue, was still there and the petrol station had closed its gate.

Has God spoken? He spoke with the silence. He could have told me to go to the other side but I would not know why. Sometimes God wants you to reason and always be submitted to Him.
