Competency

Prov.22:29 “Do you see any truly competent workers? They will serve kings rather than working for ordinary people”

The third way to increase worthiness or to become worthy is to be competent. Competence particularly is a burden. There are so many people that love God and are tongue talking but are totally incompetent. A lady was trying to sell a product to me but it was obvious she did not even know the product. In the past I have made up my mind not to let anyone waste my time; instead I switch off from the conversation. When she noticed I was switching off she said, “But I come to your church!” My response was, “That even makes matters worse because now I am ashamed of you.” You have to be competent.

The number of incompetent people out there is actually scary and sadly it has become a culture – incompetence has become acceptable so much so that when you frown at incompetence, people think you are a difficult person. I am not difficult, you are incompetent; confront it and change it!

The truth about life is that you cannot rise above your level of competence. I have observed that people that by favour are promoted beyond their level of competence always find their way back to where they belong [in any field]. If you get promoted because of favour and you do not give diligence to acquire the required skills for the new level, you will find yourself back at the previous level because that is the place for your competency. The problem is not the position – the problem is competence.

You do not have a money problem. You have a competence problem. If someone becomes a billionaire by some miracle and that person has not developed the capacity to retain wealth, it is just a matter of time before that person comes back down to thousands. The day you solve your competence problem, your money problem will be solved. The point is this; we all have one chance at this life, so make up your mind to be competent wherever you have been called to serve. Competence has become a way of life for me. If I am interested in a video game for instance, guess what I do? I read the manual. Yes, I do! Just be competent!  Strive for competence.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me identify areas where I must be competent and empower me to become competent in those areas, in Jesus Name. Amen!
