Examine

Deut.23:¹⁴ “The camp must be holy, for the Lord your God moves around in your camp to protect you and to defeat your enemies. He must not see any shameful thing among you, or he will turn away from you.”

The twelfth cause of curses is contact with an accursed thing. Josh.7:¹ “But Israel violated the instructions about the things set apart for the Lord. A man named Achan had stolen some of these dedicated things, so the Lord was very angry with the Israelites. Achan was the son of Carmi, a descendant of Zimri son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah.” There are certain things that are accursed, they are infested with demons, and if you take them into your home you are attracting those gods and those demons into your home. The truth is accursed things have repercussions.

I visited a family years ago, and the wife was telling me about a recurrent dream she had been having. In the dream, a man puts his leg on her neck and she ends up choking, and wakes up still gasping for air. We were about to pray when I felt God say, “What is under her bed?” So I posed the same question to her and she played it down. What she was saying in essence is, we called you here to pray, pray and go. What is under my bed is not your business. I said, “Sorry we cannot go on if we do not get to see what is under your bed.”

When we eventually checked, there was a figurine of a warrior with a spear and his leg on the neck of his enemy under her bed. You do not need a prophet to tell you anything more, do you? But the lady insisted that it was just an exquisite work of art from Haiti. I said, “There is no need to pray anymore. This is the cause of the dreams you have been having. You have choice; keep your exquisite work of art or allow us to burn it. What will it be? She agreed to burn it and we did. And that was the end of her troubled nights.

You have to be spiritually alert. Mind the gifts that people bring into your house or give to your children. Will it hurt you to pray over them? Take it a step further; ask the Holy Spirit if the gift belongs to you, if it is a gift you should have. I am not saying you should go around thinking every gift is an accursed thing. But when you bring God into it, light comes and darkness cannot stay.

Prayer: Father, I pray that You will not find anything in my camp that will repel You or cause Your Presence to leave me, in Jesus Name. Amen!
