Cornerstone

Gen.17: “This is my covenant with you: I will make you the father of a multitude of nations! What’s more, I am changing your name. It will no longer be Abram. Instead, you will be called Abraham, for you will be the father of many nations [emphasis added].

Knowledge is powerful. Knowledge brings freedom. You cannot be greater than your level of knowledge. How much knowledge you have determines how far you can go.

Covenants are the cornerstones on which the foundation of life and endeavors are built. When God wants to change your destiny for good, He visits the foundation of your life. Which means, He begins to deal with covenant issues. There are three types of covenant you need to be aware of and check if they exist. Some of them need to be destroyed and some need to be reinforced or recreated. Stay plugged in as we discuss them for the next few days.

The first is the covenant between God and man. In Genesis 17:1-9 [please read], God outlined His covenant with Abraham. Some of us think we are too old and that time has passed. Abraham was ninety-nine – are you ninety-nine? God can still start afresh with you. The covenant guarantees God’s goodness. When God wants to change destinies for good sometimes names get in the way.

Gen.17:9 Then God said to Abraham, “Your responsibility is to obey the terms of the covenant. You and all your descendants have this continual responsibility [emphasis added]. Every covenant has a responsibility. Covenant between God and man shows us that there is a God part and there is a man part. Many times the problem is that we have broken His covenant. When you break a covenant, you are destroying a foundation. For some reading this today, your parents have walked with God. For those whose parents are still alive, it is in your interest to ask what they negotiated with God.

For some, your parents have passed on but they have covenanted some things with God. If you break them, trouble starts. Joshua said, “as for me and my house we will serve the Lord”. If Joshua’s child decides not to serve God, what do you think will happen? There will be a catastrophe because a foundation has been altered.

Thought: If you are a parent who has entered a covenant with God, tell your children.

Prayer: Father, Your Word says that You are able to keep me from falling; keep me and my seed from breaking covenants with You, in Jesus Name. Amen!
