Ownership
Matt.6:24 “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money” (mammon) [with emphasis].
Jeff had to work late again because the boss did not send in the weekly report on time and everyone got a copy by morning. So that night alone in the office, he put the copier to work. Strangely, a single sheet printed with a big black circle in the middle was the only thing that printed. While probing, Jeff discovered that it was something mysterious. When placed over any door, Jeff’s hand could go through the black circle as though the doors did not exist.
He had taken a candy bar from the vending machine but there must be more that he can do with this newfound power. Then his thoughts went to the safe and off he went to the boss’ office. Just as before, his hand went through the circle and into the safe. One bundle after another, he emptied the safe. When he could no longer feel anything, he attempted to put his head through the hole to confirm he had everything. His head in, then hands and knees, Jeff crawled into the safe. The big black circle slipped off the door of the safe and to the ground and he got trapped.
If while reading this, you felt Jeff should have stopped after taking a few bundles, you too are guilty of greed. He should not have taken anything at all. Greed consumes you. Greed cages you and you become a slave locked in the safe. That is usually the trap of greed. I pray that Jesus will set you free. How do you know when money has become mammon?
You know money has become mammon when it owns you. It really does not matter what you own or do not own; the only thing that matters is who owns you. And whoever owns you, determines how you behave. You know money has turned to mammon when money determines your behavior. You are supposed to be a child of God, independent of the fact that you have money because you know who owns you. God has given you everything that has to do with life and Godliness. God, not money will determine the quality of your life. God says if you seek Him, money will not be an issue.
Think about these things, surrender to God and ask for His help. If you will humble your heart and surrender your life, God will take pleasure in owning you and directing your path. For those who can feel themselves slipping away, because you have come to Jesus, He will have His way in your life but you have to stay submitted to Him.
Prayer [song]: You are the Lord, let Your Name be glorified (x2). We give You glory and honor, You are the Lord, let Your Name be glorified. Amen!
