Settle It!

Ps. 119:39-42 “Save me from the insults I fear . . . I want to obey Your commands . . . . Show me how much You love me, Lord.  Then I can answer those who insult me.” [GN, with emphasis]

The Psalmist here is saying if God loves me, I can handle anything and anyone. The Psalmist was being vulnerable to God and owning up his struggles with approval addiction and the opinions of men. He was admitting that deep down he is afraid of what people really think. But he is saying, Lord if you will show me how much you love me all that will mean nothing. A major key to a wholesome life is being secure in God’s love.

So what is the barrier between you and God? What is hindering you from fully embracing God’s love for you? You need to get rid of that barrier, throw yourself into God and let God’s love overwhelm you. Paul says to Timothy in 2Tim.2:15 “For yourself, concentrate on winning God’s approval…” [Ph, with emphasis]. I am saying to you today, concentrate your life on winning God’s approval because you cannot please everybody.

Do you know that God cannot please everybody? A few things God cannot do; God cannot die, God cannot please everybody. Picture this; a farmer wants it to rain on Saturday and a couple getting married on that same day is praying that the rain would not fall. Can God please both parties? If God commands the rain to fall, what will happen to the couple? If God holds back the rain, what will happen to the farmer and his crops? God can make it rain the next day but the next day is Sunday and the people who want to go to church and the people putting the service together are praying that it will not rain. God decides to suspend the showers for that day. The farmer again goes unsatisfied.

But God can make it rain the next day – Monday. Yes, but it is the first working day of the week for most people and those who have to take a bus to work are begging God to hold back the rain. Then what happens to the farmer and his crops? God cannot please everybody so He puts seasons and timing in place, so everybody prepares for it. I am not out to please everybody. I play to the audience of one – The One!

Put God alone in first place in your life.

Prayer [song]: For this God, He is my God forever and ever. He will be my God, from now even unto the end. Amen!
