His Beauty

Ps.138:2 “I bow before your holy Temple as I worship I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness; for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name”

Jesus died for you so that you can live for Him. God expects your best because He gave you His best. The Hebrew word for bow is translated kneel, worship; bow down means to prostrate before God. And this word is used a hundred and seventy times in the Bible. The Scripture admonishes us to bow down. The reason many people do not bow or kneel before God is that they really are oblivious of the holiness of God. When you get a glimpse of God and get genuine understanding of God, it brings you to your knees.

The fact that we struggle to kneel before God [whether in private or in public] is proof that we really do not appreciate His holiness. Moses asked to see God’s glory and God said, “No man can see Me and live”. God is so awesome that if you see Him, you will die. Moses however saw God’s back and he glowed for days. Today, because of the sacrifice of Jesus, we can come into God’s Presence and worship but it has not always been like that. Back in the day, the temple had three parts; the outer court [everybody has access to this part], the holy place [only certain kinds of priest can access] and the most holy place [the holy of holies where the high priest alone can access].

Once a year, the high priest will go into the holy of holies where God is. They usually would tie a rope with bells around his ankle. Intermittently, they will tug on the rope to check if he was still alive. He in turn would respond by shaking the bells around his ankle. It is because if the priest enters the most holy place unworthily, he would die. If they tugged on the rope and there was no response, they would pull out the body of the dead priest and the next priest in line would take his place. Imagine being the next in line; how would that feel?

Take note, the fact that we are in the New Testament does not mean God’s holiness and God’s greatness has diminished. If you get a glimpse of God’s holiness, it would drive you to your knees spontaneously. The truth is that based on who God is and what He has done, the most reasonable thing to do is to kneel before Him.

Prayer [song]: Heaven and earth adore You, angels bow before You, You are beautiful… Amen!
