Obey

James 1:²² “But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves… ²⁵ But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says… then God will bless you for doing it.”

To step up spiritually, the first thing we must do is Look Up and the second thing we must do is Listen Up. However, there are two things inherent in listening up. The first thing is to pay attention [be attentive] to His voice and the second thing is to obey. A lot of people just want God to speak but they are not willing or ready to do what He says to do. The question is, why do you really want God to speak? Why do you really want to hear from God? Is it so that you can boast that God speaks to you? Or is it just so that you can tell people what is happening in their lives?

A lot of people are placing a demand on heaven to know what is happening in other people’s lives and heaven is saying, what about the things happening in your life? Have you done what God has told you to do? Increasingly, people just want to hear God for hearing sake. Someone said, and it is very profound, “God is not only to be heard, God is to be obeyed”. People do not want to obey God; they just want to hear Him. It is as though hearing what God says is like seeking a friend’s opinion amongst others to choose from. When God speaks, we are to obey. It is our duty to obey.

Some people are complaining that God is not telling them new things. My question to you is, what have you done with what He has said already? You have heard so many sermons; what have you done with what you have heard? It is good to share it on social media platforms but what have you done with it personally? The interesting thing about rising spiritually is that you cannot rise above your level of obedience. And yesterday’s obedience is only sufficient for yesterday.

#3. Climb Up! The third thing we have to do in order to step up as revealed to us in Revelations 4:1 is to climb up. And climbing requires effort. In the scriptures, most times the meeting place of God is on a mountain. When God says come up, you have to climb.
