Faith It!

Mark 12:43-44 (MSG) “ Jesus called his disciples over and said, “The truth is that this poor widow gave more to the collection than all the others put together. All the others gave what they’ll never miss; she gave extravagantly what she couldn’t afford—she gave her all.”

To Step Up financially, you need to Earn Some, Spend Less, Save More, No Loss, Invest More, Give More and finally, Faith It. For you to Step Up financially, you have to faith it and not fake it. Faith is giving what you do not have. The story of the widow’s mite is not a parable, it actually happened. Jesus actually sat by the offering basket, looking at how much people were giving. Jesus said the widow gave the most. The disciples must have asked how, with all the big spenders in church? Jesus pointed out that she gave from her lack, she gave from nothing, she gave out of faith but they gave out of their convenience. It is not about the amount you give. It is about the amount that is left after you have given.

The Macedonia church is also a classic example of how to faith it. 2Cor.8:3 (NIV) “For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, 4 they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people”. You have to make your faith in God and God’s provision bigger than your wealth. You have to make your trust in God bigger than your finances. Are you familiar with the song, “Jehovah Jireh, my provider, His grace is sufficient for me?” A lot of people like to sing this song and in truth, we are grateful for God’s provision. But do you know the story that led to the revelation of the name, Jehovah Jireh?

God promised to give Abraham a son but the fulfillment of the promise took a while. Sometimes God’s promises take sometime. Eventually Abraham had Isaac and God said, “…in Isaac shall your seed be.” In other words, through Isaac you will become a father of many nations. Then God tells Abraham to sacrifice this same Isaac. How easy was that? When it was time for the sacrifice, Isaac, who had been well taught by his father said “I can see all the elements for the sacrifice but the lamb”. And Abraham said, “the Lord will provide a sacrifice for Himself” – Jehovah Jireh! Profound!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are bigger than anything that I possess and I will honour You with my faith and my giving, in Jesus Name. Amen!
