The Joker

1Cor.2:8 “But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord. 9 That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared…”

A lot of us played cards for fun growing up and we are familiar with the card called the ‘Joker’. The ‘Joker’ is a game changer. When you pick the ‘joker’, no matter how the game swings, you remain confident. You remain confident because that ‘Joker’ gives you the power to determine how the game will end. In a game of cards, you silence your competition with the ‘Joker’. The Cross is God’s joker. The beauty of The Cross is that it is a total mystery to satan; he had no clue about The Cross.

The Bible says, Jesus is the Lamb that was slain before the foundations of the earth. When Adam and Eve sinned, God was not surprised. The devil thought he had won and God gave the serpent a hint, “…the seed of the woman will bruise your head.” So, the devil kept guessing, trying to unravel the mystery. You need to know that the devil is knowledgeable but the devil does not know everything. Even with Eve, in the Garden of Eden, he was guessing. He asked, “Has God said you should not eat?” Read your Bible in all the translations you can lay your hands on and you will discover that satan did not really know about the tree. How then did satan know what to say? satan knows God, he knows about the Sovereignty of God.

Everybody that will walk with God will have to wrestle and deal with the Sovereignty of God. There are things that God will tell you not to touch. Things that everyone else is doing, things that are not necessarily sin but you are not allowed to do. God is sovereign. The story is told of a lady that God instructed to always cover her hair when she is in church. And she wrestled with it because no other woman, not even the pastor’s wife had to cover her hair. And one day she showed up in church with a really pretty hair do and with her hair uncovered. Guess what happened? An angel physically gave her a knock on her head and she ran outside to look for a scarf to cover her hair. If you want to walk with God successfully, you have to be at peace with the fact that you cannot do what everyone else is doing.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are my game changer and I submit totally to Your will and to Your way, in Jesus Name. Amen!
