Work Wise

Prov. 13:16 (LB)”A wise man thinks ahead; a fool doesn’t, and even brags about it!” [with emphasis]

2 Tim.4:As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.” This was Paul speaking while he was still alive. How can a man while still alive know that he has not only done but also finished his work on earth? I think that is an amazing place to be. I pray that at the end of your life, you would be able to say, “I have finished my cause, I have completed my assignment”.

Note that before Paul could say “…I have finished the race”, he first of all said in Phil.3:13 “…I focus on this one thing…” [with emphasis]. Take note that Paul did not say I focus on these forty things or I dabble in these five areas. He said one thing I do! Prov. 13:16 (LB) “A wise man thinks ahead; a fool doesn’t, and even brags about it!” [with emphasis] A lot of us have met people who have no plan, no foresight and they actually brag about it. All they are focused on is enjoying their life. God says a fool does not think ahead and brags about it.

God wants you and I to just sit down and think ahead. Regardless of whether you are doing your dream job or not, God wants you to think ahead. Even if your current job is gardening, think ahead! Where are you taking this gardening in six months? What are the things that your customers are complaining about today? How can you ensure that in days to come it is not an issue? Think ahead! Prov.21:5 “The plans of the diligent lead to profit…”

As we look at each of the six winning ways of Solomon, we will also be evaluating ourselves as we go along on a scale of one to ten. Please be brutally truthful to yourself -you owe yourself that.

First Evaluation: How clear are your work goals?

  • If you have no goals, it is just a job – how I get paid – then your score is a one.
  • I make daily preparations for the day ahead, a to-do list – you are a five.
  • A ten is when you have written down, measurable career goals.

Statistics say only five percent of the human race have a clearly written career goals. Write down your score in your journal based on your honest evaluation of yourself. It is between you and God.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, I come to You for wisdom with my job, fill me with wisdom Lord and help me bring glory to Your Name, in Jesus Name. Amen!
