Pr.18:15 (LB) “The intelligent man is always open to new ideas – in fact, he looks for them” [with emphasis].
Today, we will begin with the concluding thought from yesterday’s devotional on the sources of ideas. The first source of ideas is God’s Word and the second source is Wise People. You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Think about the last week and the five people you hung out with the most. Now what is the average of their financial earnings? That is who you are! You need to let this truth sink in so that it can birth greatness in you. I endure that every week, I spend time with a billionaire in naira and a billionaire in dollars at least.
Similarly, spiritually you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. The question to you is, what is the spiritual state of the five people you spent the most time with last week? You can see that your life is not an accident. How you will end up is not a mistake. There is this saying our parents often used, “Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are.” It is not a guessing game. People are not just lucky; if you check you will discover that they apply these principles. I am going to be a billionaire in US Dollars so why should I spend my time with people that are not going anywhere?
#3. Books: The third source of knowledge is books. Dan.9:2 (KJV) “In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years” [with emphasis]. There is something you do not know that someone else has written down. There is a level of understanding that comes from book. Books as a source of ideas, is very similar to wise people. One thing about wise people is they do not have a lot of time to hang out with you. So, a lot of them have written books that serve as a door into their world. Reading their books is like spending quality time alone with that person.
Listening to a podcast is like hanging out with the person. And in this day and age, you can send them emails and they will respond. Even Daniel with all his wisdom came to a time in his life when he needed to pay attention to what Jeremiah had written.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, please increase my capacity for wisdom and understanding and give me uncommon ideas as I engage God’s Word, People and Books, in Jesus Name. Amen!
