Just Do It!

Ps.119:132 Come and show me your mercy, as you do for all who love your name. 133 Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil.”

Me or Jesus? This is one question that every Christian must wrestle with. Lu.10:25 One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: “Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus is just amazing! People came to Him with questions testing Him and Jesus always had the right answer for everyone. This man knew the question and the answer already and Jesus simply led him back to the truth that he already knew. Lu.10:26 Jesus replied, “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?”

Lu.10: 27 The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’” Most times in our search for God, what we are really looking for is the spectacular. We expect God to tear open the heavens with a thunder bolt and shake the earth. But God is in the little simple things. God is so amazing that if we are not careful, we will miss Him in our search of the spectacular.

Jesus, in pointing back to the question, was basically showing that if we do what we know, we would be better of. Lu.10:28 “Right!” Jesus told him. “Do this and you will live!” A lot of people would relate better if Jesus asked for a cow, or a two year old turtledove, or if He said, “hop on one leg seven times and hop on the other leg five times”, or perhaps if He said, “hang a red rope in front of your house”. But instead, Jesus is saying, “Do the Word and live!”

“Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?” This is one of the most important questions a person can ever ask. It is the question that different religions of the world are trying to solve or to propose a solution to. Islam for instance says, “Kill! If you kill in the name of allah you will be rewarded with twenty-one virgins in aljana [heaven]. So, people are killing just because they want twenty-one virgins, not necessarily heaven. But Jesus says, “Love! Love God and love your neighbour, you will have eternal life!” That is such a contrast!

Prayer: In Jesus Name, I [say your name] will love the Lord my God, with all my soul, all my strength, and all my mind and I will love my neighbour as myself, in Jesus Name. Amen!
