Rise & Shine!

Phil.2:14-15 (Philips) “Do all things without grumbling or arguing, so that you may be blameless… shining like lights in a dark world” [with emphasis].

The fourth thing that you need to know is that people that excel at work Maintain A Positive Attitude. They do not allow themselves to become negative. There are a lot of things that can make you negative in the workplace. But people that excel always rise above and stay positive. God tells us in today’s Scripture reference that we are to do all things, not just the things we like, or the things we feel like doing but all things [and this means all things] without grumbling and murmuring.

If you want to stand out in this world, you have to maintain a positive attitude. Maintaining a positive attitude makes you like a light in a dark world. Some people are like propagators – when they leave your desk at the office, you find yourself struggling with a negative attitude. Just refuse to go down that path. Most people have bad attitudes and if you have a positive attitude, you will rise above them and stand out instantly. You can say this is one of my secrets, I have just refused to have a negative attitude and you too can do the same.

In some offices, it is the Christians that are the most obnoxious people there. God wants you to be above and for you to be above, you have to maintain a positive attitude.

There are four types of complainers in the workplace. First we have The Whiners- their favourite phrase is “it is not fair”. Their motto is “rise and whine” instead of “rise and shine”.

Second is The Martyr. They complain about not being appreciated, they throw a pity party when they do not get their way. They will frustrate other people’s work so they can prove their ‘importance’.

Third are The Cynics- their favourite phrase is ‘nothing will ever change.’ The cynic does not believe in putting in any extra effort because ‘things have always been like this.’

The fourth complainer is the perfectionist – their favourite phrase is, “Is this the best you can do?” No matter what you do, the perfectionist will never commend your effort. They are unpleasable. Is it shocking to find that perfectionists are complainers? They actually are. God wants you to rise above, maintain a positive attitude and be Light.

Prayer: Father, I ask for the grace and capacity to do all things without grumbling or arguing, to stand blameless and shine like lights in a dark world, in Jesus Name. Amen!
