Love Gives
John 3:16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” [with emphasis]
The word love has been thrown around a lot. The media tries to tell us what love is and unfortunately, the image of love projected consistently is the mushy kind of love.
While that is an aspect of love, do not let the world deceive you; true love is sacrificial. If all you feel for the person you are in a relationship with is mushy emotions and you cannot go the extra mile for the person, then check your love. If the gentleman says he loves you but you are the one always making the calls, always reaching out, he does not really love you. I know because true love is sacrificial.
How do we know that God loved the world? Was it by feeling goose pimples and staying in heaven, or by feeling butterflies in His stomach and watching us perish? The Bible says, we know that God loved the world because He gave His Only Son. That is sacrificial love. God was concerned about our wellbeing and He sacrificed. God was concerned about us and He sent His Son to die for us. The truth is that when you are concerned about the wellbeing of others, you usually have to sacrifice like God did. I cannot over emphasize this; if you are the one always sending credit to the man and even after you send it, he waits till when the network gives free calls to call you, he does not really love you – because true love goes the extra mile.
For us as people, there is a level of fulfilment and satisfaction that you can never get until you learn how to love sacrificially. If you do not go the extra mile for people, if you do not sacrifice for people in your world, people around you, your spouse, your children, your church family, your colleagues, it is a deficiency in character and there is a level of satisfaction that you can never experience. I pray that beginning from today, you will begin to walk in it, in Jesus Name. When you give your life to God and serve His people in sacrificial love, you find out that you have a deep level of fulfilment and satisfaction that the world can never, ever give you.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, I ask that You teach me now to love sacrificially, in Jesus Name. Amen!
