James 1:5 “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking” [with emphasis]

To know something is one thing, to understand it is another thing, and to properly apply it is wisdom. Wisdom is the proper application of what you know. If you know something and you do not understand it, the chances are you will not be able to apply it. If you apply it properly, it would be by chance and you will not be able to repeat it. But if you understand it, you will be able to reproduce it and apply it over and over again. Wisdom stays at the cross roads. Prov.8:1Listen as Wisdom calls out! Hear as understanding raises her voice! 2 On the hilltop along the road, she takes her stand at the crossroads” [with emphasis]. Wisdom is always at the crossroad.

One of the easiest ways to access wisdom at the crossroad is to ask – just ask. Stay with God and ask for direction. Asking requires humility because asking is admitting that you do not know. People usually do not want to admit that they do not know, particularly the male specie. Years ago, my wife and I were going somewhere we both had never been before. We had gotten the address and directions, but we seemed to be going around in circles. So, my wife proposed that we ask for directions and I insisted that I was going to find the place. But we continued to go in circles, she began to get upset, “Can’t we just ask?” and I said, “Why should we ask? I am going to find this place.” We did not find the place so eventually I consented to asking for directions.

The first person we asked pointed us to the place and we located it easily. My wife gave me “the look”. The point is, why do men find it difficult to ask for direction? Why do men find it difficult to ask for help? Your marriage is going down, you know that it is going to hit the rocks, yet you do not want to ask for help. “What are they going to tell me that I do not know?” If you knew it, you would not be in trouble or going around in circles? I made up my mind that it does not kill to ask for help, ask for direction. Guess what? I have been asking and I am not dead. So, I recommend it to you, ask and you shall not die. Just ask! In case you are still wondering why you should ask, it is because you do not know. I know you do not know because you are on the same spot. How long are you going to remain there trying to figure it out by yourself?

Prayer: Lord, I acknowledge that You alone are all knowing, so I come asking that You will fill me with wisdom and give me direction at life’s crossroads, in Jesus Name. Amen!
