Gen.18:17& 19 “Should I hide my plan from Abraham?” the Lord asked… I have singled him out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. Then I will do for Abraham all that I have promised.”

Please send some time studying Genesis 18:17-33. The first thing from our study today is, did you know that the righteous and those who are outside of Christ should not be treated the same way? I am not talking about segregation; I am stating scriptural facts! Another thing that you and I must not miss is this; the fact that you have a relationship (connection, chemistry) with God does not mean you should be disrespectful. Even though God speaks to you and you speak to Him, never forget that if this same God snaps His finger you cease to exist, and nobody can question Him. It is a balance that a lot of people do not understand. Achieving this balance in our relationships is key to relational health with God and with men.

Some wives, because of their relationship with their husbands, they brutally disrespect him. They feel their husbands have nothing of worth to contribute. It is for this same reason that some people cannot sustain a relationship with God, in fact, God distances Himself from them. The fact that royalty is playing with you does not mean you should get familiar, never ever get familiar. Abraham negotiated with God but His respect, his reverence for God was evident. Just looking at the way Abraham negotiated with God is so instructive. If it were some of us, we would have gotten upset already. Imagine your wife is negotiating with you like this. By the time she has progressed from fifty to thirty, you will have said, woman what is going on? But God heard him out and replied every single time. May God have conversations with you.

Abraham had a nephew, Lot, in the city of Sodom. When God said He was going to destroy the city, Abraham knew he could not tell God not to carry out His plan because God is a just God. If you just read the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, you would think that God is just some dangerous God that delights in destroying people. However, when you read this story in context, you will see that God is long suffering. God said, “I have heard that men are sleeping with men, and women with women, I need to judge that” (paraphrased). Abraham negotiated from fifty to forty-five, from forty to thirty-five, from thirty-five to thirty, to twenty and then to ten and he stopped. So, Abraham was certain that Lot would have evangelized, influenced people for God.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, I ask for the grace and the wisdom to instruct my household after the Lord, in Jesus Name. Amen!
