Extravagant

Eph.1:7-8 (NRSV) “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace  that he lavished on us…”(emphasis added).

God lavishes His grace upon us and that is really comforting. There were a lot of children in my house while we were growing up. At meal time, the food available was limited, so my grandmother had to ration it such that everybody would get a fair share. Back then, sometimes I felt that my grandmother was being miserly with the food. By the time I was a teenager, my appetite was huge, and I was not the one with the biggest appetite in my house. If my grandmother was to lavish the food, some people would not have anything to eat. So, she rationed it so that the food could be enough for everyone.

But guess what? God does not run out of grace. God lavishes His grace upon us and there is still more than enough. The fact that God lavishes His grace upon person A does not mean He would have run out by the time it is your turn. By the time God gets to you, He would still have excess grace to lavish on you. That is what the Bible is telling us, and I think it is worth getting excited about. I am totally excited; God lavishes His grace upon us. Kindly ensure that you take the verses that we have skipped into your personal Bible study and chew on them.

Eph.1:9-11 “God has now revealed to us his mysterious will regarding Christ—which is to fulfill his own good plan. And this is the plan: At the right time, he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan” (emphasis added). This is where the well understood part of predestination comes to play. It does not really matter what you are facing right now, everything is going to work out according to God’s plan. It does not matter who is in the seat of power or governance right now, everything is going to work out according to God’s plan.

A lot of people are losing sleep, losing their appetite even over world affairs. The last time I checked, Jesus Christ is still Lord, and everything is going to be brought under the Lordship of Jesus. Scripture clearly states that we are united with Christ. We are the body of Christ; if Jesus is seated in the heavenly places and everything is under Him. As His body, where is your problem? It is under your feet, literally! There is really no need to fret, God is in control!

Prayer (song): forever faithful towards me, always providing for me, great is Your mercy towards me, great is Your grace. Amen!
