Faith is… Flow!

Ez.37:1 & 10The Lord took hold of me, and I was carried away by the Spirit of the Lord to a valley filled with bones… So I spoke the message as he commanded me, and breath came into their bodies. They all came to life and stood up on their feet—a great army.”

The first thing faith teaches us is this, Faith Overcomes Fear and Shame. The second thing faith teaches us is, Faith Inspires Boldness But Requires Humility. Jairus was a synagogue leader but he defied the convention. These were his people that were against Jesus, anti-Jesus they spoke against Him publicly. But Jairus was courageous, he came to Jesus. Fathers can almost do anything for their daughters. Nicodemus came at night to show you how courageous Jairus was to have come in the day time. Jairus came to the very man his people were against to ask for help. That takes courage, huge courage.

Not only was he courageous, but Jairus also fell at the feet of Jesus. He was courageously humble. Jairus’ courage was not in arrogance. He fell at the feet of Jesus and followed Jesus’s instruction. How is that important? Jairus came to Jesus first; it should be first come first serve, right? Then a woman that was bleeding just came and distracted Jesus from following Jairus to his house. But Jesus paid attention to her; one Bible translation says she told Jesus the whole story, the story of her life and Jesus listened patiently and compassionately. Imagine what Jairus was felling. He must have been agitated. This Jairus we are talking about was a synagogue leader, but the woman had no name, and this man is giving her attention. Now imagine what went through Jairus’ mind; then they told him not to bother the Master because his daughter had died. He probably gave the woman the evil eye.  Jairus could have done all that but He did not.

Another important lesson from this story is that the God we serve is not a respecter of any man. God pays attention to His people, either high or low. Jesus will pay attention to a Jairus and He will pay attention to a no-name woman. Mark 5:35While he was still speaking to her, messengers arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. They told him, “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.” Jesus did not prioritize the dying girl over the bleeding woman. Jesus went with the flow of how God sequenced things to happen. Jesus did not promise to hear the story of the bleeding woman later because He had another emergency to attend to after all she had been healed already. But Jesus did not do that, He just went with the flow. In our lives, what we need to do is to go with God’s flow and not ruffle things.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to see as God sees, to speak as God speaks, to do what I see God doing, in Jesus Name. Amen!
