Faith Over Fear

Hebrews 11:27 “By faith, Moses left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw Him who is invisible.” (NIV, emphasis added)

Moses made four life-shaping choices and so far, we have looked at three which are, Refuse To Be Defined By Others, Choose Short-term Pain For Long-term Gain, Choose What God Values, Over What Culture Values. And the fourth life-shaping choice Moses made was he Chose To Live By Faith, Not By Fear! Choose to live by faith and not by fear. Many people are living by fear. If you read the story of Moses, the Bible did not say Moses saw an angel and that is why he killed an Egyptian. In his heart, Moses believed that there was something greater and he chose to walk by faith and not fear.

Moses had every reason to be scared to death because Pharaoh was regarded as a god in Egypt, he had the power of life and death. So, to take a position against Pharaoh was a death sentence and that was why he ran. Living by faith sometimes means you have to run. We sometimes think that living by faith means we have to stay and fight Pharaoh. No! Moses could not fight Pharoah at that time. Moses ran and God says that was faith and not fear. It was faith that he took a position to align with God’s people, even though it meant he had to run but that was still faith. Baby Jesus had to run to Egypt from Herod, and that was faith.

Faith sometimes opens a door for you to reposition yourself so that you can be equipped to take on the ‘Pharaohs’ of this world. That is what faith does. Galatians 2:16 “…No one can please God by simply obeying the Law. So we put our faith in Christ Jesus, and God accepted us because of our faith.” (CEV). Not God will accept us, not God is accepting us, it is ‘God has accepted us’. It is in the past, you are accepted already because of your faith. You cannot please God by simply obeying His laws, you please God by faith, by putting your faith in Christ Jesus. What I am saying is, that living in the light of eternity is the only antidote for all the pressures of life.

You have to stop caring, to the point of it defining you, what people would say or think. You have to stop caring about the world’s values, passion, possessions, and position. Like Moses, you need to make your life choices and get out of the ‘rat race’. Someone said, ‘Pastor, I want to win the rat race.’ To win the rat race is to still be in the rat race. You need to get out of the rat race and put your heart, and your faith in God. Do not let fear define you or shape your life.

Prayer:  Father, I put my faith in Christ Jesus, and I take my stand, by faith and I banish fear from my life, in Jesus Name. Amen!
