Let It Go!

Luke 11:2-4 “Jesus said, “This is how you should pray: “Father, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. Give us each day the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation.”

Jesus is The Door for us to exit from the Prison of Pretending and from the Prison of Unforgiveness. When it comes to asking for forgiveness, you need to humble yourself and ask. Some people are never able to ask for forgiveness. Some never want to say the phrase, “I am sorry”. Just say it, it is not going to hurt. You should be able to ask for forgiveness. However, you also must be able to offer forgiveness. Why should I offer forgiveness and let it go? Why shouldn’t I insist on getting my pound of flesh? If you have lived long enough, you would have had times when you felt deeply betrayed and deeply hurt. However, the three reasons I am about to share with you have always helped me offer forgiveness and move on.

The first reason why I always let it go by the grace of God is that God Forgave Me. As flawed as I am, God forgave me, that is why I have to forgive and let it go. Romans 8:1-2There is now no condemnation awaiting those who belong to Christ Jesus. For the power of God’s life-giving Spirit – and this power is mine through Christ Jesus – has freed me from the vicious circle of sin and death.” (LB, emphasis added). Unforgiveness is a vicious cycle of sin and death. And because the power of the life-giving Spirit in Christ Jesus has set me free from that vicious cycle, and because God has forgiven me, I have to let it go. You have to forgive and let it go because you have been forgiven. If you have not been forgiven, you have come to Christ and turn your life over to Jesus.

The second reason why I always let it go is, Resentment Always Makes Me Miserable. If you resent, you will be the one that will be miserable, not the person you are resenting. That is why you have to let it go. Job 21:23-25 Some people stay healthy till the day they die; they die happy and at ease… Others have no happiness at all; they live and die with bitter hearts.” (GNT, emphasis added). I pray for you, in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, that you will stay happy till the day you see Jesus (say Amen). Do you want to live and die with a bitter heart? I do not want to live and die with a bitter heart. That burden is too much to bear. So, I let it go because I want to stay happy till I see Jesus. I do not want to be a grumpy, unhappy person.

The key thing is you have to choose to be a happy person till the day you die. The mistake a lot of people make is not understanding the concept of forgiveness. Forgiveness is not about deserving; forgiveness is about preserving. We will unpack this tomorrow by God’s grace.

Prayer: Father, help me remember that You forgave me, and resentment makes miserable, and help me forgive and let go easily, in the Mighty Name of Jesus. Amen!
