Source Principle

Deuteronomy 8:17-18 “If you start thinking to yourselves, “I did all this. And all by myself. I’m rich. It’s all mine!”—well, think again. Remember that God, your God, gave you the strength to produce all this…” (MSG)

For you to function on earth effectively, you need to understand the physical laws and operate them. For you to work successfully in the spiritual realm, you need to understand the spiritual laws and operate the spiritual laws effectively. So, let us dive into six of them. We are familiar with a lot of these things so consider this a refresher. The truth is we should study these principles until they become part of us. They are fundamental, foundational, and spiritual.

The first of God’s laws that govern finances is The Law of Ownership: REMEMBER GOD IS MY SOURCE! This is like the cornerstone of all the laws and principles. The law of ownership requires that I bring to remembrance consistently that God is my source, and that God owns it all. It is a critical cornerstone of a strong financial foundation. If you forget that God is your source, you are going to live in financial tension all your life. There are a lot of people who are earning a lot of money, but they are living in financial tension. Some are earning up to ten times what others earn, but they are still under financial pressure. And those who earn much less cannot even imagine it because they think when they earn that much, they will not have financial pressure. But it does not work like that.

Deuteronomy 8:18 “…remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to PRODUCE wealth” (NIV, emphasis added). You have the ability to produce wealth. God wants you to produce. We have to be productive. You have to produce wealth, but you also have to realize that the source of that wealth is God. The source of that ability to produce wealth is God. If you understand this, you will not struggle with any of the remaining five. The law of ownership; it is the Lord your God that gives you the power to produce wealth. From the law of ownership stems the concepts of security. The source determines how secure a stream is.

The source determines whether the stream will keep flowing. If a stream dries up it largely can be linked to the connection to the source. Putting your security, your financial security in anything else is foolishness. God is your source. You must put your security in something that can never be taken from you and that is the safest place to be. Put your security in something that can never be taken away from you and that is your relationship with God. Do not put your security in your salary or your savings. Put your security in your Saviour, His Name is Jesus.

Prayer: Father, I acknowledge You as my source. Thank You for giving me the ability to produce wealth. I produce for Your glory, in the Name of Jesus. Amen!
