Go To God!

1 Chronicles 4:¹⁰ “He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.” (emphasis added).

Our first lesson from Jabez’s story of enlargement is that Even If You Were Cursed, You Can Prevail. Our second lesson from Jabez is that It Is Okay To Ask God To Bless You! I am sure that some people reading this today are wondering if this would be a problem. Sometimes we feel funny about asking God to bless us. People have said to us that something is wrong with always praying for blessings. My response to such people is, “You be praying for curses for yourself and let me be praying for blessings for myself.” Jabez was unashamed to ask God to bless him and enlarge his territory. There is no shame in it. And God granted him his request. God will grant your request in the Name of Jesus.

And by the time it was all said and done, a whole city was named after Jabez. 1 Chronicles 2:⁵⁵ “and the families of scribes living at Jabez—the Tirathites, Shimeathites, and Sucathites…” (emphasis added). Just like saying that family lives in Lekki. God can enlarge you so much that it will be said that the families that live in Femi (put your name there). God enlarges! And He is going to enlarge you. There is no shame in asking God to enlarge you. There is a Yoruba song from back in the day that says, “God, You give one man six children. Where is my own? I am shameless. You gave one woman six children, where is my own?” In other words, God, it seems there is plenty where it is coming from. Where is my own?

Do you know that some people in the city where you live have ten houses? Go to God and ask, Lord where is my own? I ask for my own in the Name of Jesus. Some families go to church with two cars, three cars. After church, the man is going somewhere, the woman is going somewhere else, and the driver takes the children and the domestic staff home. Meanwhile, you are still using legedis-benz. There is no shame in going to God and asking for your own. There are people reading this even now who do not have a Naira account. Their accounts have Pounds, Dollars, and Euros with multiple zeros.

Are you going to ask God for your own? Lord, I am shameless. I have come to ask You for my own. Oh God of heaven, you gave a whole city to Jabez. Lord, give me my own city. Are you going to be cute or are you going to place a demand on heaven for your enlargement like Jabez did? Are you going to be cute or are you going to be like the daughters of Zelophehad? Are you going to make your case before God? Are you going to lay your claim?

Prayer: Father, bless me indeed like You blessed Jabez and enlarge me, in Jesus Name. Amen!
