Take Me

Matthew 11:28-29 “Come to me all of you who are tired from the heavy burden you have been forced to carry. I will give you rest. Accept my teaching. Learn from me. I am gentle and humble in spirit. And you will be able to get some rest.” (ERV, emphasis added).

God’s antidote to stress and method for victory over stress is “Take my yoke and learn from me“. The word yoke in this context means purpose. So, take my yoke equals take my purpose. As we can see in the image inserted, the oxen are yoked together. They have the same purpose and are going in the same direction. The problem is that we are often chasing a lot of different purposes outside the purpose of Jesus for our lives. When you chase purposes that are not the purpose of Jesus for your life, your life becomes stressed out.

Matthew 11:30For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (emphasis added). The word easy in this scripture is not talking about the simplicity of the yoke. It is talking about three main things that make the yoke of Jesus easy. Firstly, my yoke is easy means my yoke is well fitting. It will not bruise your neck because it is custom made for you.

Jesus’ connection to you is well fitting. Secondly, my yoke is easy means it is connected to a right-sized partner. Jesus can walk with a little child, walk with a completely grown adult, and speak to everyone in between in a language they understand. He is the right partner. Jesus fits your personality and your destiny. If the ox doesn’t have a well-fitting connection, it is a problem. However, if the connection is well fitting, but the ox is yoked to another of a different size, that will create another kind of problem. The third thing easy means is that it is perfectly paced. Jesus wants you to know that He is perfectly paced for your life. So, easy equals well fitting, right sized, and perfectly paced. One ox is not running faster than the other. Jesus is infusing you with strength and moving at the pace of your destiny.

If you get yoked to someone or something that is slower than the pace of your destiny, you will be in trouble because it is not moving at the pace of your destiny. I pray that your connections will be well fitting, right sized, and perfectly paced in the Name of Jesus. Guess what? You can find all this in Jesus. The second thing Jesus says is learn from me. Stress management is not found in a system; it is found in a Person. Jesus wants you to come to Him, learn from Him, and let Him be your coach. He knows you are weary and tired, and you want to give up. Don’t give up, don’t throw in the towel, go to Jesus, and find new strength.

Prayer (hymn): Just as I am, without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me, and that thou bidd’st me come to thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come. Amen!
