Engage The Word
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (NKJV)
1 Kings 19:11-12 “The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.” (NIV, emphasis added). You cannot hear a whisper if you are not quiet. God mostly doesn’t shout. You can’t hear a whisper if you are not quiet. Even if the person is beside you and is trying to whisper something to you, if you are talking and shouting, you won’t hear it. So, you need to be quiet.
Remember, the definition for Rhythm is the beat that keeps the piece on the right timing, moving forward the timing and duration of notes and rests. There is something about timing called duration. There is a time for everything, which means that the time for something, the duration of that time, might have ended. Music is not just all notes. Music is knowing when to sound a note and knowing when to be at rest. Being at rest in music or in a musical piece is as important as sounding the note. And it is because it is the combination of the notes and the rests that brings about the beauty of the music. It can’t just be notes alone.
Interestingly, that is how life is. You need to understand the rests and the notes. Being quiet is like the rest. You need to be at rest. Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” The reason you don’t know that He is God in your life and situation is because you are not still. “Be still” means drop it. Sometimes, we think that to be still means not doing anything and being at peace. Well, thank God for that. Many people are at rest, if you will, but they are holding on tightly to things. And God is saying, You need to drop that thing you are holding on so tightly to. Just drop it.
The Word of God brings us in sync with the Spirit of God. So, stop looking for a vision and start looking for a verse. If there is something that Christians really need to realize, it is to stop looking for a vision and start looking for a verse. What is God saying in His Word? Is there anything wrong with visions? No, but let the Holy Spirit bring the visions when He chooses and pleases. However, we are people of the Word. Stop looking for a vision and start looking for a verse. What verse of scripture is God going to bring you way or illuminate on your path?
Prayer: Father, as I engage the Word, open my understanding, in the Name of Jesus. Amen!
