The Science

1 Kings 18:⁴³ “Elijah (to his servant): Go now, and look in the direction of the sea…” (The Voice)

Elijah was a prophet, but he understood the science behind the anticipation. There is a science behind the anticipation. There is a science behind the prophetic. In this case, Elijah said, “Go and look toward the sea…”. How did he know to tell his servant to look towards the sea? It is because he understood the science of the water cycle. We see in the image attached that there is transpiration from the plants and the Earth, which flows into the sea. Then from the sea, the water evaporates, and then there is condensation. Then the water returns to the earth by precipitation.

What Elijah was saying in essence was, “Has the condensation been thick enough to trigger precipitation?” There is a science to the anticipation of rain. We are not just saying build anticipation on nothing. There is method to this madness of faith (if you will). God wants us to understand that the spiritual is not at variance with the practical. Moses was on the mountain lifting his hands in the battle against Amalek while Joshua was in the valley getting the victory. And the Bible says that when Moses’ hands got tired and were coming down, Joshua was losing the battle, and Israel was losing the battle. But when Moses’ hands were up, Joshua was winning the battle (Exodus 17:8-13). Again, we see that the spiritual and the practical are not at variance at all.

Therefore, we need to learn to know where to face in the spirit, and we need to learn to know where to look in the physical. In the case of Hezekiah, the prophet Isaiah said to him, “Set your affairs in order, for you are going to die…” (2 Kings 20:1-6). Hezekiah faced the wall, and he changed things in the physical. Elijah proclaimed the sound of abundance of rain, but Elijah buried his head and faced the supernatural, then the rain came. When Jesus got to the tomb of Lazarus in John 11:38-44, He looked up and said, “Father, I know you always hear me”. Jesus prayed; He faced the spiritual, then He looked at the tomb and said, “Lazarus, come forth!”

The lesson for us here is that we need to learn how to face the spiritual and learn where to look in the physical. Elijah said to his servant, Look towards the Sea.

Prayer: Father, in the Name of Jesus, as I look to You and fix my eyes on You in the spiritual, tell me where to look in the physical. Amen!
