Ask

Jeremiah 6:16 “This is what the Lord says: “Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, [the ancient paths,]…” (NLT & NIV, emphasis added).

Yesterday, we said that God saying we should ask means that He has positioned people in our lives who have the answers to the challenge we are going through, so ask! However, do not just stop at asking; be specific about what you ask for. “…Ask for the old Godly way, the ancient paths…”. When it comes to seeking God, for instance, what is the Godly way to do it? What is the ancient path to do it? You want to run a business that will glorify God. What is the ancient way to do it? What is the Godly path to running a business that will glorify God? If you want to work in an organization, regardless of whether it is owned by a believer or not, it doesn’t matter. The question is, what is the ancient pathway to do it? Why? It is because you will not be the first person to do it. Some people have gone ahead of you.

I want you to spend some time pondering over the inserted picture. When I first saw this picture, I looked at it for a bit, and after that, I kept going back to look at it because it is so instructive. The boy has his backpack on, fresh, ready to take on the world. On the other hand, the old man was descending from the same staircase. While the boy has taken only a few steps, the old man has only a few steps to go. The boy can just wave to the old man and say, “Bye”. And by the time he comes back down the stairs, he will appreciate the old man more.

The boy can even jest at the old man and say, “Why are you so weak? Why do you look so old and worn out? We are young and fresh; we are the new kids on the block.” And the old man will probably just nod and go on his way. Or the boy could, if it were possible, plug a flash drive into the old man and download his experiences and his wisdom, so that he can learn from them. You are probably wondering, flash drive, how is that even possible? There is a way to do it, and it is called Asking. Some people have gone through the path that you are on; locate them and ask questions. Some of these people have written books, and the books are priceless. Find the book and read it.

Prayer: Father, as I locate the people who have the keys to the ancient paths and Godly wisdom I need, give me the wisdom to ask the right questions, in the Name of Jesus. Amen!
