A Place To Belong
‘Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other’ Rom.12:4-5
‘We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other’. Being planted in Church, gives us a place to belong. It is impossible to believe without belonging. If you think you can believe without belonging, then you will not believe for long. Believe it. If you say you believe and you do not belong over time what you believe will be corrupted. Why, because iron sharpens iron. If you leave iron by itself, it may rust. But when it is with another iron, it gets sharpened and the rust is removed. That iron becomes sharp just by allowing itself to be sharpened by another. God illustrates our connectedness with the parts of the human body [Rom.12:5]. Where even though every part is different, their connectedness amplifies the functionality of the body. You need to find a place to connect, a family to belong to. ‘You are members of God’s very own family and you belong in God’s household with every other Christian’ Eph.2:19 [LB]. A skilled footballer who refuses to belong to any country, regardless of how skilled he is, will never get to play in the world cup. No church is perfect. In fact, if you find a perfect Church, the moment you enter, it becomes imperfect. A Christian who is looking for the perfect Church will never get planted. Your choice not to belong translates to opting out of flourishing, being fruitful and being established. You can never find a floating fruit. Every fruit is connected to a tree that is planted. The reason why a lot of people are fruitless in their lives is because they are not planted. You have to be planted before you can flourish. ‘Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God’ Ps.92:13. A Christian without a Church family is an orphan. No matter how strong the arm is, if it gets disconnected from the body, it may flex for a while but it will eventually lose all the strength in it. The arm might still flex for a while but it will eventually wither. There is no one that can run this race alone.
Prayer: Father, may I never be cut off from the body of Christ. Establish me firmly in Your house. Cause me to flourish amongst Your people, Serving the body with my ability in Jesus Name.
