Things Above

Earth is not eternity. God created it and His desire is for us to prosper while we are on earth but you must stay in the consciousness that Heaven is the focus. You cannot afford to allow earthly things consume you at the risk of loosing out on heaven. Unlike the eagle, the chicken has no interest in gazing towards the sun. The chicken’s focus is on looking for worms. The chicken is not interested in heavenly things. They are content to live in the chicken yard with their eyes to the ground, scratching and pecking dirt looking for what to eat. Most chickens will never fly because they are earth bound. You are not a chicken. May you not be earth bound in Jesus Name. ‘Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things’ Col.3:1-2[NIV]. Look around you and identify the earthly things that have taken over your heart. God is saying don’t set your heart on earthly things but set your heart on the things that are heavenly. How do you know people whose hearts are on earthly things? Small pressure and they threaten you with backsliding. I have shared the story of a lady who said to me that she had been a good girl in the year past and that if God doesn’t settle her maritally she cannot guarantee that she will remain a good girl. Who are you giving guarantee to? It is your life, do what you think is best and prepare for the harvest. Your holiness does not make God holier rather it is for your own good. You claim to have repented from drinking alcohol yet all you are reminiscing on is when boys were boys. In your mind you are actually drinking the alcohol. I was like that too, I used to say no to those things but I say to God ‘you see I am suffering for you here’. But not anymore, ‘set your affection on the things that are above’. The Bible says ‘it is not for kings to drink wine’. So the question is how do you want to operate – as a king or as a servant – the choice is yours.

Prayer:  Lord, I choose today to set my affection on the things that are above. I admit I cannot do it on my own so I am asking for Your help, in Jesus Name.
