Zamar & Halal
‘Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early. I will praise [zamar] thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing [zamar] unto thee among the nations’ Ps.57:8-9 [KJV]
Zamar means to pluck the strings of an instrument like a harp or guitar, to sing, to praise. A musical word which is largely involved with joyful expressions of music with musical instruments [Ps.57:8-9 KJV]. If you can play any musical instrument, my advice is that you get that musical instrument in your house and when you wake up play it to God. It does not have to be an expensive musical instrument. Everybody can play the tambourine, get it, and play it before God. I have a rattle that is just by my bedside. When I wake up, I play it with songs to God. And immediately I can feel the presence of the Holy Spirit swoop down. Then when you face your day you know that anything that cannot stand before God will not stand before you.
Halal is the primary Hebrew root word for praise. In fact all the praise words can find expression in halal. Halal is like the mother of them all. The word hallelujah comes from the word halal. It means to halal Jehovah. Halal means to be clear, to shine, to boast, to show, to rave, to celebrate, to be clamorously foolish. You cannot say hallelujah and the person beside you does not know what you have said. Hallelujah is a very powerful way of praising God. ‘Praise [halal] ye the Lord. Praise [halal], O ye servants of the Lord, praise [halal] the name of the Lord’ Ps.113:1[KJV]. Halal is a very dramatic way of praising God. In fact the way halal is to be expressed is with a lot of show. Have you seen someone boasting? It is to make a boast in God. Halal is to rave. ‘Praise [halal] ye the Lord. Praise [halal] God in his sanctuary: praise [halal] him in the firmament of his power’ Ps.150:1 [KJV]. Hallelujah is being a fool for God. It may even cause people to laugh at you because you are praising God. In fact the Bible does not only call it being foolish but rather it refers to it as being clamorously foolish. Many of us take an exception to that. Again when it comes to God, you keep your dignity aside because you have not come to meet anybody. You have come to meet God. Halal is to rave.
Thought: In what way can you Halal God today?
Prayer [song]: Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power [even if its with your hands alone zamar God].
