Senses
‘So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image’ 2 Cor.3:18
As human beings, we interact with our natural world primarily through our physical senses and our minds. The five main senses are touch, smell, sight, taste, and sound. You need to understand that it is through your mind, soul, and physical senses that you interact with your physical world. We interact with the supernatural world primarily with our spiritual senses and our soul. So you need to understand also that spiritually you have the use of your five senses – sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. ‘And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain’ 1 King 18:41 [KJV]. You can touch, see, hear, smell, and taste spiritually. The psalmist says ‘taste and see that the Lord is good’ [Ps.34:8]. He is not talking about physical taste but rather referring to spiritual taste.
On one side there is the supernatural world and on the other side the natural world. Your body is connected to the natural world and your spirit is connected to the supernatural. Where there is an intersection, you have your soul. So your soul is like a bridge. When your spirit leaves your body your soul seizes to exist because there is no function. In Old Testament the words soul, spirit, and inner man were used interchangeably. If you are a spiritual person that is ruled by your spirit connected to the Holy Spirit your spirit will give instructions to your mind. That is why the Bible says ‘be spiritually minded’. So it is your spirit that is influencing your mind then your mind is giving instructions to your body. Hence when someone does something to hurt you, instead of reacting in anger because you are spiritually minded you let it go and forgive. But if you are carnally minded then revenge becomes your first response. The Bible says ‘to be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace’ [Rom.8:6]. So your spirit is subject to the Holy Spirit when you submit your spirit to Him. Then you are able to renew your mind and become spiritually minded. Then you can hear God as clearly as you hear people.
Prayer [song]: ‘Holy Ghost! Do it again, do it again in my life. Open my eyes to see Jesus seated upon the throne’. Father, sharpen my spiritual senses, in Jesus Name.
