Not Against God

‘For what gives you the right to make such a judgment? What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?’ 1 Cor.4:7

A number of us are familiar with the term IVF. Yet for those who have never heard of it, IVF simply means In vitro fertilization (IVF); a process where an egg is fertilized by a sperm outside the body. A lot of couples undergo intense pressure from not having children. Some are willing to wait on God and I applaud their faith. While some are willing to take the route of medical science, and guess what, I also applaud their faith. Medical science is not against God, in fact God gave medical science as a gift to man. So Christians want to know what the Bible’s take on IVF is. Like I mentioned earlier, medical science is a gift from God. The Bible says all power belongs to God; even the power for IVF comes from God. In my opinion IVF is not unbiblical. With IVF the process of fertilization simply happens outside the womb as opposed to inside the womb. Yet who determines if the fertilized egg survives – it is God alone. So there is nothing wrong with IVF. It is like giving birth the natural way or giving birth through caesarian operations. Some people feel like it is a sin to have caesarian operation. For what gives you the right to make such a judgment? What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?’ Again who determines whether the child comes out alive because it is definitely not the method of childbirth that determines?

After fertilization occurs, there is a period where everybody’s fingers are crossed including the doctor’s. After fertilization occurs, God alone determines the first heartbeat. No human has the power to breathe life into anything; that is a right reserved solely for God by God. And guess what, medical science cannot explain how the heartbeat starts. Guess how it starts, the breath of God. Once the doctors hear the heart beat, it means the life of God has entered into the fertilized egg. It is only then you have a human being. Can anyone tell babies apart – which was conceived through IVF or which was not? Look out for God and follow only His leading.

Prayer: Thank You Lord for the gift of medical science and all other gifts that You have given to us. Thank You for the gift of children, in Jesus Name.
