Settled

You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine’ Ps.4:7

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of GodMatt.5:9 [NIV]. The grace that is able to save you is able to change you. If you are experiencing a grace that is saving you but is not changing you that grace is suspect. Mostly people focus on getting all you can, canning all you get, and siting on the can. For them the person who successfully does that is blessed. But Jesus disputes this because ‘blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven’. In other words, Jesus is saying that chasing material things does not make you blessed. When you are blessed you will inevitably have material things. Therefore, Jesus says to let your focus be on seeking ‘first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things that the gentiles seek after shall be added unto youMatt.6:33. In other words the benefits of blessedness will be effortless in your life. Solomon puts it this way in Proverbs he says ‘the blessing of the Lord maketh rich and addeth no sorrow’. Not riches maketh blessed. So Jesus through the beatitudes is realigning our thinking and renewing our minds. When I look back I wonder how my wife ever agreed to marry me especially because of some of the things I said to her even before we got married. One of such things was ‘what we don’t have we do not have! What we do not have we do not need!’ Then I proceeded to show her in the Bible that ‘God will not withhold anything good from them that fear Him’. So I said to her ‘lets fear Him. The things He has not given us, we do not need it yet’. And by the grace of God, we do not lack anything today. Note, when you make being blessed your priority you miss the God of the blessings. But when you focus on the God of the blessings, He will show you that ‘in His presence there is fullness of joy and at His right hand there are pleasures for evermore’. This position was settled very early in our marriage, I did not even know that I would end up serving as a Pastor then. We settled to follow Jesus and trust Him to do what He said He would do. And He has not failed and He will not fail.

Prayer: In Jesus Name, my family and I will experience perfect peace in all areas of our lives even as we keep our eyes on Jesus, in Jesus Name.
