Tongue Power

2 Samuel 23:2 “The Spirit of the Lord speaks through me; his words are upon my tongue. God’s Spirit spoke through me, his words took shape on my tongue.” (NLT & MSG)

When we were much younger, when we went to the doctor for a medical check-up, the doctor would bring out a spatula. Then the doctor will use it to flatten the tongue. I always used to wonder what the doctor was looking for on my tongue. Was the doctor looking to see the food I ate? Or would he be able to tell that I took an extra piece of meat? What is the doctor always looking for on the tongue? The truth about the tongue is it reveals what is going on inside you. By examining the tongue, the doctor can tell whether you are ill, or well, or at least a pointer to what the issue might be.

A lot of times, we look at ourselves and deep down we tend to question if God is really for us. Meanwhile, the real question is are you really for yourself? How come that is the question? It is because when you hear the things coming out of some people’s tongues, it is like the things coming out of the mouth of the enemy’s mouth. Meanwhile, it is the person speaking. So, if you really want to know the direction your life is moving, do not look very far, look at the words that are coming out of your mouth. If you want to know where you will be five or ten years from now, check what you are saying now.

You are where you are today because of what you are saying to yourself, good or bad. The great things that are going to happen, plus the ones that have happened, happened because of what you have said. The bad things you wish did not happen but happened because of your tongue and what you have said. Someone said, “You form your words then your words form your future”. All you need to do is form your words, your words will form your future. Do not struggle to form your future because largely your future is created by your words.

The biggest thing that God wanted to do with Gideon was to make him align with God. So that Gideon’s words can align with God’s Word. God allowed Gideon to confirm His Word in several ways (please read Judges 6:17-22, & 36-40). God indulged Gideon because until Gideon was convinced about what God was saying to him, Gideon could not possess the future God had for him. Until you are convinced about what God is saying to you, you cannot possess the future that God has for you. It is when you are convinced, that you begin to speak it.

Prayer: Father, Your Spirit speaks through me, His Words take shape on my tongue, and I speak only what the Holy Spirit says, in Jesus Name. Amen!
