Repent & Yield

Jeremiah 2:13 “My people have done two evils: They have turned away from me, the spring of living water. And they have dug their own wells, which are broken wells that cannot hold water.” (NCV, emphasis added).

Sometimes, the only thing we repent of, when we get to repent at all, is turning away from God, turning away from the spring of living water. Acknowledging that I have missed it here and there, I have done this and that. God forgive me. God says that is not all. Turning away from me the spring of living water is number one. And number two is they have dug their own wells which are broken wells that cannot hold water. So, not only do we abandon the spring of living waters, but we also dig our own well that cannot satisfy. Most times, when we repent, we say to God, I am sorry for turning away from the spring of living water. But guess what? We do not ask God to take care of the well we have dug which does not satisfy us.

Instead, we say let Ishmael live before You, oh God. But God is saying in Isaac shall your seed be. You should turn away from the well that does not satisfy, to the spring of living water. You do not turn to the spring of living water and keep the well that does not satisfy. The living water is on one side, but we are praying to God to help us find water on the other side. Why do we do that? God is saying you are to abandon the well and come to the spring of living water.

For the hand of God to be unleashed, the first thing is DESIRE, and the second thing is REPENT. The third is to YIELD. My grandmother used to say, “They want to weave your hair, they want to make you beautiful, but you are shaking your head instead of sitting still”. If you go to the barber’s shop, the barber has to lay his hands on your head to cut your hair. When ladies go to do their hair, ladies can testify to this, they have to sit down quietly under unbelievable conditions. However, they are very compliant and obedient even though they can pay the hairdresser’s salary ten times over. We put our heads down for men to lay hands on our heads to beautify us. The Most High God wants to lay His hands on your head and beautify you. So, put your head down. Let God beautify you. Put your head down.

Mark 8:34If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” (NASB). When God is releasing His hand, His hand will take control. You cannot be in control. One of the significances of God’s hands is control. He takes control of your life, situation, health, family, and thoughts. He takes control when He lays His hands. And when He does that, you have to die to yourself and yield to God. That is how it works.

Prayer: Father, I desire Your hand upon my life. I repent for turning away from You. Please take care of every cistern I have dug. I yield completely to You, in Jesus Name. Amen!
