The Way

Acts 4:¹² “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

My grandmother used to say to us, “Fast so that you will not have to fast. Pray so that you will not have to pray.” The truth is whichever way, you will pray and you will fast. It is either you are doing it proactively, and you are getting on the front foot, or you are on the back foot. It is up to you to choose the one you want. It is only Christians that leave what they have, to flirt with what the world has. We really cannot do what the world can do the way the world can do it. The story is told of a man who resigned from a Fortune five hundred company because he wanted to be governor of a state in Nigeria. Very well-spoken man, he did a PowerPoint presentation, his ten-point agenda on how to turn the state around.

The elders were just looking at him. When he was done with the presentation, they asked him just one question, and the man started sweating. The question was, “Can you kill a human being? If it comes to it, can you behead someone?” We cannot do what the world can do. But it is foolishness to abandon what we can do, which is effectively more powerful than whatever they can do, to try and mimic what they can do. It is only the Christian that will abandon prayer, fasting, giving, sacrifice, and tithing because someone said something. Can you do what the world is doing to get money? People are eating other people’s faeces for money. They do not just prostitute themselves alone, they do the fetish of eating the faeces of the person they slept with, and they get a lot of money. Can you eat faeces? No! I have answered for you.

The seed of God is in you. Get up and do the one you can do. You can fast, you can pray, you can sacrifice, get up and do it. I remember someone was trying to convince me not to pay my firstfruit. I am the Pastor and I pay firstfruit. So, I asked to the person, “Have you ever paid firstfruit before in your life?” He said, “No.” I shared the testimony before. I struggled to pay my first fruit that year, but the day I paid it, God gave me a house in America that I did not have to pay a mortgage for. And you, who has never paid firstfruit, are trying to convince me not to pay firstfruit? You must be joking! That is my own joker.

I cannot do what you are doing. So, let me do what I am doing. Why is it so important to you what I am doing, is it your money? I am the one eating the apple, yet you are telling me the apple is not sweet. Is it your apple? You come, taste, and see that the Lord is good.

Prayer: Father, may I never abandon the things You have taught me to see solutions where it does not exist. Help me to remain faithful to the truth in Your Word, in Jesus Name. Amen!
