Fair Hearing
‘Come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most’ Heb.4:16.
The third thing we learn from Luke 18:1-8 is, the fact that you are right does not automatically win the case for you. So what does? The lawyers call it advocacy. ‘The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’ Luke 18:4-5. Even though she was right, she did not get justice until she wore the judge out with her constant requests. Guess what, the Bible says we have an Advocate Jesus, who seats at the right hand of God. Let me paint a court scenario, the judge is seated in the courtroom and the Advocate shows up which is the lawyer but the person does not show up. It is a case that parties must show up because in our own kind of spiritual case we have to show up. If the parties do not show up, the case will be adjourned. Now the problem is that for a lot of us our cases are just being adjourned. You have the best advocate in the universe, Jesus the Son of the Living God standing before the Father. And He is saying, ‘come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most’ Heb.4:16. Jesus is saying come so that the judgment may be ruled in our favor. You and I have to show up. The fact that you are right does not automatically win the case for you. And our lawyers tell us that, “he who abandons his case cannot complain of denial of fair hearing”. If you abandon your case then you cannot complain that God is not sorting you out. Let me give you a typical example. You are praying for ‘x’ [x is a variable and could be anything]. You come on day one and the case file for ‘x’ is opened. Day two, you sleep off, your advocate is waiting, case adjourned. Days three and four, case adjourned, you didn’t show. Then on day five you come back to ‘x’. This is just very clumsy. God expects us to consistently show up. Just show up. There are certain times I do not know what to pray about and I say to God, ‘I don’t know what to pray Lord but I am just showing up’.
Prayer: Precious Holy Spirit, please grace me to appear before the Father day and night until I get justice, in Jesus Name.
