Focus

But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God’ Luke9:62

The third thing we need to deal with when the light changes to green is focus. Forward motion requires forward focus. You cannot be moving forward and be looking backwards. You are going to make a mistake or run into something. If you are moving forward be looking forward. ‘Another said, “Yes, Lord, I will follow you, but first let me say good-bye to my family.” But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God’ Luke9:61-62. If you are still ploughing and you look back, Jesus says you are not fit. The subject of focus is so important. If you are heading in a certain direction, then face the direction squarely. Only two things really can make us look back and break our focus – the things that are good and the things that are bad. The bad things are more obvious and many still fall prey to the things them – negative influences. God has said move forward but you are still trying to look back. Stop it! Keep looking forward!  Keep your focus because forward motion requires forward focus. The bad things could be negative influences, failures from the past, or regrets for past mistakes. You constantly looking back and wishing you did things differently. God is saying you need to stop doing that. Stop looking back.

The second thing that causes people to look back is the things that are good. This is even more dangerous because they are more subtle. Things like accomplishments, you are constantly replaying the conquests of the past. What about these days? Even good people; there are certain good people you should leave in your past – just leave them alone. ‘Another said, “Yes, Lord, I will follow you, but first let me say good-bye to my family” . The picture painted in this Scripture is so graphic. This man said to Jesus I will follow you let me just say good-bye to my family first. Is that a bad thing? But Jesus replied and said “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God’. Take time out today to study this Scripture. You will discover the issue of priority – let me first go and instead of I will first follow you and then. Your focus determines to a large extent what you prioritize.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, teach me how to consistently make God priority. Teach me how to have Jesus at the center of all I do, in Jesus Name.
