Ignore The “Eliabs”
‘He walked over to some others and asked them the same thing and received the same answer. Then David’s question was reported to king Saul, and the king sent for him’ 1Sam.17:30-31
By now you must have read all the Scripture references listed for the military battles of David. If you haven’t then please read 1Sam.17; 1Sam.18-20; 1Sam.23:1-5; 1Sam.27; 1Sam.30; 2Sam.2,3&4; 2Sam.5:6-10; 2Sam.5:17-20; 2Sam.5:22-25; 2Sam.10; 2Sam.11-12; 2Sam.13:18; 2Sam.20; 2Sam.21:15-17; 2Sam.21:18; 2Sam.22:19; and 2Sam.22:20-22. As you do, may God Himself visit you. Over the next few days we will be studying the battle between David and Goliath. And I trust that we will learn deep things that cut across all of David’s military battles.
Like all of us, David needed to kill his goliath before he could access the throne. I don’t know what the throne represents to you but there is a goliath that needs to fall for you to access that throne. And that goliath will fall in Jesus Name. However, before you even face Goliath, you have to deal with and overcome the “Eliabs” and “Saul’s” of this world. Then you can face your goliath.
The Eliab’s: Please read 1Sam.17:26-31. David got to the battle front with the provision he had brought for Eliab and his other brothers. He saw what was going on, took interest and started asking what the reward was for the man who kills the useless uncircumcised philistine. ‘But when David’s oldest brother Eliab, heard David talking to the men, he was angry. “What are you doing around here anyway?” he demanded. “What about those few sheep you’re supposed to be taking care of? I know about your pride and deceit. You just want to see the battle!”’ 1Sam.17:28. The “Eliabs” simply want to belittle you, that is their job. Due to their own failings and limitations, they see your dreams and your visions and they tell you that you cannot do it. They usually say things like, “Why? What makes you think you can do it?” They speak to your inadequacies and they try to put fear in you. The “Eliabs” are usually people you can call senior brothers. I too have experienced “Eliabs”. And thank God for the Holy Spirit who helped me to ignore the “Eliabs” and come out victorious. It is my prayer that each time you encounter the “Eliabs” that the voice of the Holy Spirit will drown out their negativity and strengthen you from the inside out.
Prayer [song]: You are my strength when I am weak. You are the treasure that I seek. You are my all in all. Seeking You as a precious jewel. Lord, to give up I’d be a fool. You are my all in all. Jesus, Lamb of God. Worthy is Your name (2x).
