Guard Against II
‘Though the Lord is great, He cares for the humble, but He keeps his distance from the proud’ Ps.138:6
Guard against anything that attempts to steal your adoration of Jesus. You see people who never had issues with tithing. And as they remained committed, God began to bless them and in a way God opened doors that even they would never have imagined. Then they began to delay in their commitment. Some would even demand that you show them where tithe is in Old Testament or New Testament. I know you are reading this and you cannot imagine anyone being this daft. But there are people that are this daft but they think they are wise; people who become extremely logical because there is money in their pockets now. When that pocket was dry, they were looking for God and needed God. God came through and what they paid Him back with is ingratitude and pride. May God not slap their faces in Jesus Name. God is saying where we should be grateful we have become prideful. Riches make it harder for you to depend on God. You used to raise your hands, close your eyes, and just worship Jesus. Now during worship your eyes are open and you are criticizing other people’s expression of worship. Be small in your own eyes because you have not seen anything yet. God is still taking you very far. Do not throw the things that got you to where you are out of the window. The only person that can advice you to do that is satan himself. Be small in your own eyes.
The second problem with being rich is that riches distract you from true priorities. The reason why riches are able to do that is because wealth gives you options. If you don’t have money, you don’t have options. But when you have money, you have options – what part of town to live in, buy a house or build one, fly business class or first class. You have an option. That’s what being rich does to you. The challenge is because we have options and we have the power to create options, many times we create options outside of God’s will. And we get distracted from our true priorities. Listen, the fact that you can afford something does not mean you should acquire it. Is your old wristwatch bad? Why then do you need to get a new one? Some people will say they need to upgrade their standards based on the fact that things have improved for them. That is fine as long as God has given you permission to do it.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to remain small in my own eyes. Like a true child, teach me to consistently enquire of you especially on the seemingly little things, in Jesus Name.
