All In!

“So Elisha returned to his oxen and slaughtered them. He used the wood from the plow to build a fire to roast their flesh. He passed around the meat to the townspeople, and they all ate. Then he went with Elijah as his assistant” 1 Kings 19:21

Interestingly when Elisha went to meet Elijah to ask for permission to go back and say goodbye his people guess what Elijah said? How is that my business? Is that a nice thing to say? Not at all, for someone that is going to let go of everything to follow this man of God. Elisha was definitely in for a roller coaster. He left his business and family to become Elijah’s assistant, that basically means his servant back in the day. When Elijah wanted to eat guess who brought him water to wash his hands – Elisha. In fact, Elisha had a reputation for being Elijah’s boy. When the king of Israel and the king of Judea had a problem and they were seeking a prophet in the land, Jehoshaphat said there is this man Elisha. He used to pour water on the hand of Elijah; the Word of God is with him [2Kings 3]. I am going somewhere with this story so pay attention. And when it was time for Elijah to go, time for Elisha’s reward, Elijah was going to sneak away. Everybody knew Elijah was going to be taken away, even the sons of the prophets. In fact the sons of the prophet teased Elisha about it. Elijah repeatedly told Elisha to stay back because the Lord had sent him further ahead. Elisha could have gotten upset because this man was obviously playing tricks. Not Elisha, he simply said as the Lord lives and as your soul lives we are going there together. They got to Bethel and Elijah said stay here the Lord has sent me to Jericho. At that point Elisha should have been upset but he simply said God has sent me to follow you so where you go, I’ll go [translated]. And on and on like that until it was time, and Elijah asked Elisha what he wanted. I love Elisha, he requested for a double portion of everything Elijah had. And Elijah said to him if you see me when I am being taken up. Again that is just so mean, he could have told Elisha to kneel down and just laid hands on him. But Elijah said, if you see me when I am taken up you would have it. Elisha said no problem and he kept his eyes peeled on Elijah. When the chariot took Elijah, he still didn’t drop the mantle. Elisha saw it and shouted my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereoff [2Kings 2]. The scripture said the mantle fell it was like God was saying to Elijah leave this thing for this boy and that is God for you. God is a rewarder. Regardless of Elijah’s limitation God is a rewarder. Elisha grabbed the mantle and went to Jordan and said where is the Lord God of Elijah? And he smote the Jordan and it parted. He referred to God as the Lord God of Elijah, which means if he had offense in his heart it won’t work.

Prayer: Father, help me to persevere and focus and pay the price for every stage You take me through and at the end may I not miss my reward, in Jesus Name
