Untouchable!
“This is my command – be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” Josh.1:9
In life, you will have to do many things scared but do not be afraid of fear. A lot of things I have done, I have done afraid but not afraid of fear. One night I was driving back from a prayer meeting with my wife and friends in the car, just having fun. And I felt the Holy Spirit say to me, keep quiet. The conversation continued but I kept quiet. And the next thing I saw was armed robbers stopping cars. The cars before ours had been stopped, I could feel the fear, it was tangible. And the Holy Spirit said, keep moving! How? My legs were shaking but I obeyed and kept moving. Was I afraid? I was scared stiff but I kept moving.
Being fearless is not the absence of fear but the absence of the fear of fear. I usually would do prayer walks around the estate where I live. And for the duration of the prayer walk, I am disconnected from all the other activity going on around me. I am completely focused on God, talking to Him, taking instructions and just worshiping.
One house in particular has this very vicious dog and every time I walk past that house the dog charges at the gate barking ferociously at me. And every time I get startled, my heart pounds and I get overwhelmed with fear. And then I catch myself and continue my walk. Every time! I forget almost immediately, so by the next day it happens all over again. The dog just never gives up. On of those nights, I was praying and I felt God say “you are approaching that house”. And I said “the house with the dog” and the conversation went on. So I was conscious and as I got close to the house, this time I was watching the gate. And as usual the dog came charging at me barking and hitting its nose at the gate. But this time I was not afraid. In fact, this time I did a little “you can’t touch me” victory dance for the dog.
And as I walked away, God said, “that is exactly how fear is. Fear is a caged dog as far as a child of God is concerned, it can only bark but it cannot come near you. Do not be afraid”. So the next time you get challenged by fear, do your own little “you can’t touch me” victory dance because as far as a child of God is concerned fear is a caged dog.
Prayer: Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me…[Ps.23:4], in Jesus Name.
