Seventh Words
‘And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend My Spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost’. Luke 23:46[KJV]
‘Father, I entrust My Spirit into your hands’, the seventh words are words of reunion with the Father. Jesus started the work on the cross calling Him Father and ended the work on the cross still calling Father. ‘Unto your hands I commit my Spirit’, meaning Jesus was very aware of the activity of His Spirit and He
was able to say when His spirit was leaving the earthly body. God has given every one of us spirits; we are not this body. Man is a spirit that has a soul and lives in a body. If Jesus tarries and death comes before our Saviour returns, every one of us will pass on to the other side of eternity. The body you see in the mirror is just a temporal dwelling place. My advice is quit dwelling so much on things that satisfy your flesh. Rather, like Jesus, pay intense intention to the activity of your spirit. Think about it, what happens after you leave this body? This body will expire, so your spirit will go either to be with the Lord [and the Lord is not in the grave any more] or to hell fire. ‘And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment’ Heb.9:27. There is nothing like purgatory. You are to sort out your eternity here and now. It is what you do with Jesus now that determines where you spend eternity. ‘…work out your own salvation with fear and trembling’ Phil.2:12b [KJV]. Jesus has also sent His Spirit to be with you and I. You have to make the choice to allow Him work in you so that when the time comes, you too can say ‘Father, I entrust My Spirit into your hands’. Some like Enoch, did not even have to face death. Start today, strengthen your spirit by taking in heavy dose of the Word; the Word is food for your spirit.
Prayer [Song]: Crucified, laid behind the stone. You live to die rejected and alone. Like a rose trampled on the ground, You took the fall and thought of me above all. Thank You Jesus.
Prayer: Father, I ask for the understanding and knowledge to work out my salvation. Help me to feed my spirit with your word and be sensitive to its activity, in Jesus Name.
