Seven

‘On the seventh day God had finished His work of creation, so He rested from all His work’ Gen 2:2

Seven is the number for perfection. God did all the work of creation within six days and on the seventh day He rested. In a sense, at creation, God also spoke seven words.  The seven words that called forth land, sea, living creatures, plants, lights, man and rest. Jesus, God the Son, spoke seven words in His final moments to bring to perfection everything that is lacking in our lives and to bring us into His rest. Take Christ’s seven words on the cross and let them become you. Pray for those who offend you and ask God to forgive them. Do not miss the opportunities that God is bringing your way to witness Christ. Cherish your relationship with the Father and with the men that He has put around you. Jesus endured abandonment so that you and I can enjoy unbroken fellowship with God. Make it your priority to be in sync with God. Do not ignore the things that God is thirsting for in your life. Then you will witness Jesus finished work on the cross and God’s work in you, come to completion. When it is all said and done, you too are guaranteed that you can commend your spirit into the Father’s arms. Jesus crowned it all up with resurrection; because of resurrection everything that is lacking in our lives will be perfected. ‘Socrates taught for 40 years, Plato for 50, Aristotle for 40, and Jesus for only 3. Yet the influence of Christ’s 3-year ministry infinitely transcends the impact left by the combined 130 years of teaching from these men who were among the greatest philosophers of all antiquity’. You cannot ignore Jesus, you either love Him or you hate Him but there is no middle ground. Doing good deeds is not a free pass into Heaven. Jesus did not endure the crucifixion, speak seven words amidst all the pain and resurrect for you to sit on the fence. You are either for Christ or you are against Him. Friendship with the world is automatically enmity against God.

  1. WOW! This is a take home day of the devotional. One to meditate on through out the day.
Its amazing how God did the work at creation and entered into rest. Jesus spoke seven words and entered into His rest. This just says to me that if i walk God’s way i will also enter into my rest.
Jesus did in 3years what those great men did not in their life time – ‘Learn of me… has new meaning’.
