Category Archives: Honouring God
Phase I
Ex.20:12 “Honour your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”
Honour your father and mother means give way to their person and have regard for them. I have come to discover that this translates to different things in different phases of life.
Chabod
Supreme
1 Chron.29:11 [KJV] “Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all”
In organizations, sometimes people use the boss’ name to get things done. Similarly, in churches people use “Pastor said…” as a prefix to their sentence just because they want to get the advantage, even though pastor did not say that.
Nothing Compares
Philip.2:9 [KJV] “Wherefore God also has highly exalted him, and given him a name which Is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth”
People misuse the Name of God first by commonizing it, second by distorted claims and, third by hypocritical claims. The fourth way people misuse God’s Name is through presumptuous claims such as, “The Lord told me… or God said…”.
Be Careful
Ex.20:7 “You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.”
The third way that we misuse the Name of God is through hypocritical claims. A lot of church people are hypocritical. There are paedophile priests that say, “God bless you” on Sunday, then they abuse young boys on Monday – it is so hypocritical!
Accept & Adore
Ex.20:5 “You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods… 6 But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me …” [with emphasis]
The truth is that attempting to shape a person to suit your fantasy can be very offensive. Attempting to reshape God to suit your fantasy is offensive to Him. Read the rest of this entry
Loves Sake
Ex.20:5 You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods…” [with emphasis]
If you do not understand the Ten Commandments, you will think it is just a tyrannical statement. But the reality is that it is the greatest love letter of all time. Read the rest of this entry
Sweet Perfume
Ex.20:4 “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. 5 You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God…” [with emphasis]
Idolatry suggests that God can be at man’s disposal. Worship on the other hand is putting myself at God’s disposal. The worship state of mind is I am here to worship You! Why have you come into God’s Presence today? I am not saying it is wrong to show up in God’s Presence with a prayer list or a need you want God to meet. But is worship of the Living God on the top of your list in His Presence? If it is not, then you need to repent of idolatry. I pray that your worship state of mind will be renewed today and it will be “I want to worship God – my service is to worship God.” Worship is not a waste of time. Read the rest of this entry
Incomparable
Isa.46:9 “Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me. 10 Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.”
As human beings, it is natural for us to create an image of someone we have not seen but our imaginations are faulty. People have created pictures of Jesus that they carry on their bracelets. It is idolatry – and it is wrong. Some people are carrying pictures of Mary or pictures of angels that look like midgets, because they want to associate with divinity and so they can feel connected to God. As much as those things make people feel good on the temporary, it robs God of His glory. Read the rest of this entry
Worship
Ex.20:4 “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. 5 You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God…” [with emphasis]
The second commandment is, “You shall not make idols”, and it is The Battle with Worship. Over the next couple of days, we will be looking closely at the second commandment- our struggle with worship. Read the rest of this entry
