Carrying Grace
Philippians 1:6 “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished….” (emphasis added).
There is an aspect of grace that is very crucial. It is like the bedrock everything sits on. And that is the fact that God has the power to sustain you by His grace. Read the rest of this entry
Grace Speaks
John 5:8-9 “Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!” Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking!” (emphasis added).
Why did Jesus instruct the man to pick up his mat? There are several implications, but we will look at two. The first implication is Don’t Leave Any Trace of Your Stuff Among The Wrong Crowd. Read the rest of this entry
Watch Out!
Hebrews 12:15 “Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.”
We have to pay attention to the pain people have caused us and deal with it properly. The nature of pain is that pain insists on being attended to. People don’t see good when it comes, Read the rest of this entry
Got Beef?
John 5:7 “I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.” (emphasis added).
This man had two people beefs. His first beef was with the people who did him dirty—his friends and family. This man must have had brothers and sisters. Read the rest of this entry
Look Up
Jeremiah 17:5 “This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord.” (NIV).
God can use people to help you, but God doesn’t have to use people. You MUST NEVER ever look to people as your source. God alone should be your source. Relying on people turns your heart away from God. Read the rest of this entry
Your Focus
Psalm 147:10-11 “He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy.” (NKJV)
People sometimes forget the good things you do for them, so they throw you under the bus easily. Sometimes, I look at myself and I am like, really? Guess what? People do that every single time; Christians do it too. All this man could see was the process and the people, Read the rest of this entry
Grace Overlooks
John 5:6-7 “When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?” “I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.”
This man’s response to Jesus’ question flowed from what he could see. Yesterday, we learnt that all he could see was the process and the people. He could not see the mercy and the grace of God that was right in front of him. Read the rest of this entry
Would You?
John 5:6-7 “When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?” “I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.”
This man’s response never ceases to amaze me. The question was, “Would you like to get well?” What was his response, “I can’t, Sir.”? His response amazes me not because I am mocking the man. Read the rest of this entry
Anyone
John 5:3-4 “Crowds of sick folks—lame, blind, or with paralyzed limbs—lay on the platforms (waiting for a certain movement of the water, for an angel of the Lord came from time to time and disturbed the water, and the first person to step down into it afterwards was healed)” (LB)
Imagine if the only condition was the pool getting full. Anyone who is able to get in before the pool is full will be healed of whatever disease they have. Then the pool is emptied of healed people, and those who could not get in have to wait for the next stirring of the water. Read the rest of this entry
Old vs New
Luke 1:37 “For with God nothing will be impossible.” (NKJV)
John 5:4 “For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.” (NKJV, emphasis added). Grace again! Read the rest of this entry
