Ephesians 5:^15-17 “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly but understand what the Lord wants you to do.”

A young man walks up to me asking for my help with getting a job. Naturally, the first question I ask is, what do you want to do? Then he responds, ‘Any job, Pastor, any job will do’.  There is a sense of responsibility in that, and it portrays that he is open to taking any job as long as it puts food on his table. Galatians 6:⁹ “Let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing IF we don’t get discouraged and give up.” (LB, emphasis added).

The battle between what is right and what is easy is the battle between short term and long term. “…if we don’t get discouraged and give up”, the battle is usually between shortcuts and paying the price. “…if we don’t get discouraged and give up”, that is where the battle is. Ephesians 4:²⁶ “If you are angry, don’t sin by nursing your grudge. Don’t let the sun go down with you still angry—get over it quickly”. (LB).

Getting angry is not a problem. God says, you can get angry but do not sin. Do not go rejoicing just yet about your right to get angry. Wait! God’s Word says, Ephesians4:²⁶ “Go ahead and be angry. Matthew 6:^14-15 “In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can’t get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God’s part.” (MSG)

1 Corinthians 9:²⁷ “It is my own body I fight to make it do what I want. I do this so that I won’t miss getting the prize myself after telling others about it.” (ERV)

If you are going to have anything worthwhile, you will have to fight for it. If you are going to take or keep any territory worthwhile, you have to fight for it. I have some Pastor friends in the western world who do not really comprehend spiritual warfare like Africans do. They are good people, powerful people, great men of God in their own rights and to the glory of God. But they do not understand some aspects of spiritual warfare and how real it is.
