Deeper In-Love

‘This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!’ 2 Cor.5:17.

If purity does not come by new behavior but by new creation, then it follows that purity does not grow with more new behaviors. How do you grow in purity? It is simple; you grow in purity with more affection for God. So the more the love I have for Christ, the more I lose the taste for sin. So if you are struggling with sin, check your affection for Jesus. The more you fall in love with Jesus the easier it is for you to let go of sin. Check two people who are in love, they do crazy things for each other. It is as if there are no barriers in their world. Someone we used to pastor shared with me how he used to travel across states at least five times every week to visit the lady that is now his wife and it was no big deal for him. The more we fall in love with each other, the more pleasing each other becomes effortless. This is similar in our relationship with God. The more the love we have for God is, the more of the presence of God we have because we hang out with people we love. If your spouse does not like to hang out with you then you need to begin to pray.

We all need to learn practical tools of walking in purity, things that we need to put in place so we can grow in purity and not diminish. Some of them have nothing to do with us but everything to do with God because it is Him that will put them in place.  Yet we need to recognize them so that we can cooperate with God and our purity will be undeniable in Jesus Name. The first practical tool for purity is commitment. Nothing happens without commitment. Your business cannot grow if you don’t commit to it. You cannot get married if you don’t commit to the person you love. You cannot even get a job without committing to the job and signing a commitment. Similarly, your walk with God cannot just float; you have to be committed to purity. Job was so committed to purity that he said ‘I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman’ Job.31:1. Jesus had not physically walked the earth at that time but Job understood that purity requires commitment.

Prayer [song]: You are Holy, Holy. Lord there is none like You. You are Holy, Holy, Glory to You alone. I’ll sing Your praises forever. Deeper in love with You. Here in Your courts where I’m close to Your throne, I’ve found where I belong’. Amen.
